[Jian Xu] How to deal with drawings with dotted lines or broken lines when filing designs in China
The main issue is that broken lines are not allowed according to Chinese practice. The broken lines need therefore to be removed or replaced with solid lines, depending on the desired protection. The applicant may file such designs having broken lines in the EU first, and later file such designs in China with the broken lines revised. In China, a design with broken lines revised can claim the priority application having broken lines. Furthermore, the drawings having broken lines can be filed as reference views to assist in understanding a design.
